Peru has been recognized as a top tourist destination once again. On this occasion, Peru was awarded by one of the most important touristic fairs in China, Shanghai World Travel Fair 2017 (SWTF 2017). SWTF 2017 chose Peru as the “Best Destination in the Americas” in recognition of its efforts to attract Chinese visitors.
The decision was taken by the event committee. The awarding ceremony took place between April 20 – April 23 and it gathered representatives from more than 55 countries.
Many Peruvian tour agencies attended SWTF 2017 in order to get in contact with other international tour operators, airlines, hotels, among other tourism-related companies.
Peru’s presentation at SWTF 2017 was outstanding, reported: El Comercio. The Peruvian committee decorated a stand with Andean designs inspired by the Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu, that captured the public’s (mainly Chinese) attention and curiosity.
In the Asian continent, Chinese visitors account for the second-largest population that visits Peru, after Japan. The Foreign Trade and Tourism Ministry (Mincetur) expects that more than 35,000 Chinese tourists will arrive in Peru by the end of 2017.
